Let nature nurture creativity and inspire curiosity
Nurturing Foundations is the perfect blend of home setting and learning center with an emphasis on outdoor learning experiences. A low child to teacher ratio allows for more meaningful child focused interactions. Nurturing Foundations offers a more personalized learning experience for your child. NF uses a play-based and child directed curriculum allowing your child’s interests to foster their learning. NF uses the Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards to guide the design and implementation of curriculum, assessment and instructional practices with your child.
Nurturing Foundations is for children ages 3-5 years old. Nurturing Foundations can have a maximum of six students. This allows for more individualized learning experiences tailored to meet each child's developmental needs.
Nurturing Foundations is a 9-month program starting in September and ending in May. Monday to Thursday 8-11:30 (3 or 4 days a week). Extended care options are available from 11:30-4:30 with 30 minute early drop off (7:30) and late pick up (5:00) available.
Nurturing Foundations is located in the lower level of my home. We have an indoor classroom and use the outside natural playscape as our second classroom. We are located in Milford, OH, 5 minutes off of 275 exit 57. We are off a private drive.
It has been a long time dream to create a small preschool program built on components I believe to be integral to a healthy childhood and future success in elementary school and beyond. I moved to Milford with my husband in 2020 and we began working to turn my preschool dream into a reality. In late summer 2022, the lower level remodel was complete and Nurturing Foundations came to fruition.
Working with children brings me joy. Watching young children grow and build an understanding of the world around them is fascinating.
Children learn about the natural world through hands on experiences with nature. When children have joyful memories associated with being in nature, they are more likely to grow up caring about nature and wanting to protect it. I take comfort in the hope that my work with children will help create a kinder, more empathetic future generation, that will strive to make the world a better place for all.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education degree (early childhood birth to 5) and an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Care and Education degree. I have worked as a nanny and sitter for 15+ years. I was a Head Start Pre-K teacher for 3 years. I am current on Child and Infant First Aid/CPR/AED certification. I have a recent background check and many references available as well.

Julie McConn worked for my family, helping to raise our daughter, now 11 for six years, starting when she was 12 weeks old. As I have expressed to countless parents and family members, Julie is simply put, is the best there is. She provides all aspects of care that are critical during those first five years: routine, play, safety, intellectual stimulation, patience and above all else, love. It is why, when my daughter began to phase into preschool, every one of my friends with small children lined up to hire her. It is why she has a cadre of families that would do anything for her—because she changed our lives for the better.
Julie’s life passion is to make sure your children have what they need in their most formative years. That was certainly, what she did for my daughter. My child explored the outdoors, was read to and did more artwork than can fit in our storage spaces. Julie made healthy meals and read to her. Julie was transparent about the day, what went well and, if something did not go well, that was also shared. She reveled in seeing how she could build a day around what peaked my daughter’s curiosity. To this day, Julie remembers my daughter’s birthday and for her 11th birthday took her to a wolf sanctuary in Indiana.
My daughter is thriving. She met or exceeded all developmental milestones as a child. She is healthy. The only thing wrong with Julie is that there are not more of her. So, I say, from one parent to another, with Julie your child matters. She will do anything for them and brings vast experience, knowledge and expertise to the table to provide them with a childcare experience that is unsurpassed. I believe the hype, that 0-5 is the most critical time for our child’s brain development. As such, imagine if you had someone in your life that could foster and steward this social and cognitive development alongside you? A person that believed in your child as much as you did? That is Julie. That will always be Julie. So, I hope to welcome you to the ranks of the lucky few! We are among those in the Cincinnati region who have had the gift of Julie being in our children’s lives. It is a great club to be in!
I cannot recommend Julie and Nurturing Foundations enough! Julie acted as a nanny for my two young boys throughout the pandemic and I am so grateful for her as a part of their lives! Julie is a consummate professional who cares deeply for the growth and emotional intelligence of children. She is loving, gentle, patient, and exponentially creative. My kids rave each day about their many activities exploring nature, building forts, using imaginative play, and the dozens of creative games Julie came up with. Julie worked with my preschooler to ensure that he was kindergarten ready. She used play, imagination, and fun to work on his dexterity, letters, recognition, fine and gross motor skills, all while helping to build him into a compassionate and confident little boy. I feel blessed to have had Julie be a part of their foundational experiences in life. Julie is an incredible educator, wealth of knowledge, and a gentle soul to trust with your children. I cannot recommend her enough!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Julie. She has been a third parent to us for 11 years. Working with us, she has been a peaceful influence on the kids often letting them have their big emotions and then teaching good words for conflict resolution. She doesn't underestimate kids' abilities, but takes them very seriously and engages them in conversation while teaching them to be curious about what they observe. She still spends time with my kids regularly and they love her like family.
I have known Julie McConn for over 11 years and can personally attest to her being a wonderful caregiver and teacher to my two children! Choosing Julie's preschool Nurturing Foundations is a decision you will not regret. Julie possesses wonderful attributes that make her an excellent teacher. Julie's education, experience, disposition, warmth and diligence all position her to excel in her role as a preschool educator. Julie's 4-year early childhood degree enables her to educate young minds; incorporating the best structured learning with free outdoor play. Julie's recent coursework allows her to be up- to-date on the latest studies around child development and the importance of education for young children.
My daughter has a life threatening food allergy and Julie's conscientious mindset assuage my fears. When Julie takes my children out of the house, she has always made sure to have my daughter's epi pens on hand. Julie is cautious to never expose my daughter to foods she is allergic to. It is a great relief to know my children are well cared for when they are with Julie. Choosing Nurturing Foundations is choosing Julie and that is one of the best gifts you can give your child!
